Partners: Who we are

There is a high demand for native English teachers in China, and this job provides us with working visas that enable us to live in the country long-term. As teachers of English we teach 12-16 hours of class per week and have contact with thousands of students. Friendships form in class and outside of class. Many students have questions about the nature of the world, the meaning of life, and morality (how to be a good person). As we share our faith and lead bible studies, we give students opportunities to encounter and respond to the Living Word. Those who do, we disciple and connect to the local Chinese church movement, with the hope that they will become leaders able to evangelize and disciple others.

For our long-term staff, we place high value on speaking and living as locals do. Even as we take intensive language classes, immersion - usually in the form of living with Chinese families - best puts us in a place of learning and receiving from the culture and the people speaking its language. Immersion also reflects the incarnational ministry of Jesus, who put our flesh upon himself and lived as we did. As students of the Chinese language our goal is to communicate in the "heart language" of those around us, and present the gospel with its true Chinese face. Attaining this kind of fluency takes a minimum of two years.
