“You are my life guideline teacher!”
This may not make sense to many of you, but what my friend Rain is trying to convey is that she wants me to disciple her into the Family of God! Rain is a beautiful, bubbly, curious third year university student. Her boyfriend, Danny, became a believer last year, and now she too is very interested in Jesus. We now meet weekly to read the Book, pray, and talk about God together. It is so exciting to see a faith arise for the first time in someone’s life. The process looks different for everyone, but there is always joy!
Last week Rain came over to bake pumpkin pie with me (it was Thanksgiving in Canada), and she sadly confided in me that although she has been searching for a job for weeks, she still had received no offers. Conversely, all the males in her major have already received offers (this unfortunately is the common problem of job-place sexism in China). A few hours later she was off again to another job recruitment meeting, and texted me the following: “Today we have a lottery and I am really excited! I hope I am the lucky guy. I pray to Jesus, and oh! I get that gift! And I keep pray and I receive a message from a company to attend the final interview. And I still pray and I receive another email to attend a big company interview! Thank God! Thank Jesus! Thank Holy Spirit!” It was exciting to read these messages, and even more exciting when she shared His answer to her prayers to other students in our weekly Bible study. We all get the opportunity to be a “life guideline teacher” to the people He places in our lives. My prayer is for us all is to take those opportunities and “make the most of them.” May we see his grace and new life abound all around us.
