I recommitted to stay in China four more years last November. That decision came primarily out of Father’s invitation to hope in Him – His character and love. He brought me before four empty vases and asked me to imagine how He could and would fill them abundantly.
This morning, my teammate and I walked around the campus we’ve been pouring into to intercede for students and ask Father to give us His vision for the new year. Coming out of a semester where things didn’t take root as much as we’d hoped, we were unsure of how to strategize this spring: which students to invest in, how much to do together or separately, whether to run a more formal program through the school, or continue more organically.
As we turned a corner during this walk, we saw a building in construction, and in front of it, rows and rows and rows of empty flowerpots. My teammate turned to me with a smile and said, “They’re ready for the planting.” And the Spirit opened our eyes to how many students are awaiting Him – His character and love. We entered the prayer time asking how, what, and when, but were reminded afresh of Who – He who makes all things grow.
We see the promise in the flowers blooming around the campus and city. Father invites us to dream big in Him this semester, to cast nets with hope. There are details and logistics to continue bringing before Him, but we taste freedom in the discovering, freedom in the inviting, and freedom in the laboring. He will fill, and fill abundantly!
